Postcards from Pripyat, Chernobyl by Danny Cooke

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit Chernobyl whilst working for CBS News on a '60 Minutes' episode which aired on Nov. 23, 2014. Bob Simon is the correspondent. Michael Gavshon and David Levine, producers. For the full story http://ift.tt/1xShPE4 ----> ***Soundtrack 'Promise land' by Hannah Miller - licensed on themusicbed.com Chernobyl is one of the most interesting and dangerous places I've been. The nuclear disaster, which happened in 1986 (the year after I was born), had an effect on so many people, including my family when we lived in Italy. The nuclear dust clouds swept westward towards us. The Italian police went round and threw away all the local produce and my mother rushed out to purchase as much tinned milk as possible to feed me, her infant son. It caused so much distress hundreds of miles away, so I can't imagine how terrifying it would have been for the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens who were forced to evacuate. During my stay, I met so many amazing people, one of whom was my guide Yevgen, also known as a 'Stalker'. We spent the week together exploring Chernobyl and the nearby abandoned city of Pripyat. There was something serene, yet highly disturbing about this place. Time has stood still and there are memories of past happenings floating around us. Armed with a camera and a dosimeter geiger counter I explored... www.dannycooke.co.uk Follow me on twitter @dannycooke Shot using DJI Phantom 2 (GoPro3+) and Canon 7D

Microsoft Recruiting: Mindquest by Brad Abrahams

The first in a series of two viral videos for Microsoft Recruiting. We were asked to help recruit up-and-coming ace computer programmers before they get snatched up by Google and Facebook. We thought the only way for them to appear fresh would be to do something they never do, poke fun at themselves, specifically in the context of how they are viewed in the computing community. Somehow Microsoft let the concept through. This is the result. Produced at Digital Kitchen 2008. EPROM - Center of the Sun [Rwina Records 2014] by Rwina Records

"'Center of the Sun' is an animated pseudo-documentary of the life cycle of an Olmec sun god. Simultaneously, it also serves a music video for a deliciously meaty chunk of ghetto glitch created by EPROM. By the colliding flesh of its devoted cult, the god emerges from its abyss with an ambition to destroy and dominate. In order to accomplish these goals, the god must transcend the spiritual world and enter our physical realm. The barrier between those worlds proves too strong and the sun god is rebuffed into one of the many distant stars that litter the night sky that hangs like a flaccid penis above our happy heads. Pumped with industrial strength jenkem and poppy seed grease, parents and children alike will be delighted and perplexed by the flashing disco scenery and dazzlingly real special effects waiting to be discovered in this new KOKOphonic invention." iTunes: http://ift.tt/1umUn0C Vinyl: http://ift.tt/1tK4NmE Credits: Written by KOKOFREAKBEAN Directed by KOKOFREAKBEAN Animated by KOKOFREAKBEAN Production by KOKOFREAKBEAN Music: "EPROM - Center of the Sun" Rwina Records P & C 2014 www.rwinarecords.com KOKOFREAKBEAN http://ift.tt/1umUp8x

Cupidiculous by Panop Koonwat

Cupidiculous(2014) is a motion graphic project fusing 2D cel-animation and 3D techniques together. It conveys a humor story about Cupid, who makes Adam and Eve fall in love. But this act of love leads to overpopulation, overconsumption and global warming. So he has to find the way to fix these problems. Most characters and elements have been done in 3D but rendered as 2D flat vector look with poppy pastel, splashy and heightened color schemes. Then added more 2D liquid speed lines by drawing frame by frame. Even though laughter is the major objective, but Cupidiculous also delivers critical messages covertly. More or less audiences will get that with absolutely enjoyment. 2014 School of Visual Arts, MFA Computer Art Student Film Software : Cinema 4D/ Toonboom/ After Effects Cupidiculous Blog http://ift.tt/1oOBtwc CREDITS Directed and Animated by Panop Koonwat Music : Henry Homesweet Sound design : Narin Kongkatavaethita

NOV 2013: KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR NEW FILMS - CLICK HERE - http://hyper-real.co The latter half of the 20th century saw the built environment merged with media space, and architecture taking on new roles related to branding, image and consumerism. Augmented reality may recontextualise the functions of consumerism and architecture, and change in the way in which we operate within it. A film produced for my final year Masters in Architecture, part of a larger project about the social and architectural consequences of new media and augmented reality.

Slow Life by Daniel Stoupin

"Slow" marine animals show their secret life under high magnification. Corals and sponges are very mobile creatures, but their motion is only detectable at different time scales compared to ours and requires time lapses to be seen. These animals build coral reefs and play crucial roles in the biosphere, yet we know almost nothing about their daily lives. Learn more about what you see in my post: http://ift.tt/1rzH6xM EDIT - answer to a common question: yes, colors are real, no digital enhancement, just white balance correction with curves. When photographers use white light on corals, they simply miss the vast majority of colors. Read more in my blog. This clip, as well as stock footage, is available in 4k resolution. Make sure you watch it on a large screen! You won't be able to appreciate this clip or see individual cells moving in a sponge on a smartphone. If you have a full-HD screen, when you enter full-screen mode, please press on "view actual size" next to the HD icon to improve sharpness. To make this little clip I took 150000 shots. Why so many? Because macro photography involves shallow depth of field. To extend it, I used focus stacking. Each frame of the video is actually a stack that consists of 3-12 shots where in-focus areas are merged. Just the intro and last scene are regular real-time footage. One frame required about 10 minutes of processing time (raw conversion + stacking). Unfortunately, the success rate was very low due to copious technical challenges and I spent almost 9 long months just to learn how to make these kinds of videos and understand how to work with these delicate creatures. I am glad that I abandoned the idea of making this clip in 3D (with two cameras) - very few people have 3D screens and it doubles processing time. Gear: - Canon 7D (died at the beginning of the project as I had overused it in my research), Canon 5d Mkiii (90% of footage is done with it) - Canon MP-E 65 mm lens - adjustable custom-spectrum lamps (3 different models) - they were needed to recreate natural underwater illumination. - several motorized stages including StackShot for focus stacking - multiple computers to process thousands of 22+ Mpx raw images and perform focus stacking (an old laptop died on that mission after 3 weeks of continuous processing). Edited in Sony Vegas, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Zerene Stacker, and Helicon Focus. Music: Atmostra III by Cedric Baravaglio, Jonathan Ochmann and Zdravko Djordjevic. Visit my website to see more cool stuff: http://ift.tt/P0tNXS (consideration to buy a print from my website or to use the tip jar below the video is always welcome, but this option is better: http://ift.tt/1iWrekg) Inquiries/licensing/press: find my contact details here: http://ift.tt/1rzH6xO Please do not share this clip to promote or endorse marine aquarium industry. I simply want people to admire life, but not to be told to buy stuff, especially poses captive animals More about using my videos: http://ift.tt/1hFjwHJ

Europe In 8 Bits - Opening Titles by Device

Opening titles for Europe In 8 Bits documentary. Direction, Design, Animation & Music: Device EUROPE IN 8 BITS is a documentary directed by Javier Polo that explores the world of chip music, a new musical trend that is growing exponentially throughout Europe. The stars of this musical movement reveal to us how to reuse old videogames hardware like Nintendo’s GameBoy, NES, Atari ST, Amiga and the Commodore 64 to turn them into a tool capable of creating a new sound, a modern tempo and an innovative musical style. This is a new way of interpreting music performed by a great many artists who show their skills in turning these “limited” machines designed for leisure in the 80’s into surprising musical instruments and graphical tools. It will leave nobody indifferent.
